Sunday November 11

Championship Game: Indiana vs. Michigan State (Indiana 2 - Michigan State 0)

Players to key an eye on: Pat Noonan, Mike Ambersley and Colin Rogers from Indiana; Ricardo Villar, Chad Severs, and Derek Potteiger from Penn State; Justin Cook and Kerry Thompson from Ohio State; Aaron Lauber from Wisconsin; Jody Keeling and Bryan Lau from Michigan; Dan Doman from Northwestern; Brett Conley and Jeff Krass from Michigan State.

Analysis: Indiana was a perfect 6-0-0 in Big Ten regular season play. They pretty much dominated conference play scoring 17 goals and allowing only one. Indiana was upset by Ohio State in the semifinals of the conference tournament last year 1-0 ending Indiana’s 38 consecutive game winning streak. Count on Indiana Coach Jerry Yeagley reminding his players about that. Penn State should get by Northwestern but if they are not on their game they will have a difficult time against the winner of the Michigan St. vs. Ohio State match. Ohio State finished a disappointing 1-4-1 in Big Ten regular season play. However they match up well with the Hoosiers and do not appear to be a team that is intimidated by Indiana’s history of dominance. Indiana should take the tourney title but if Ohio State makes it to the final they are capable of pulling off the upset.

Analysis: The Big Ten was again one of the strongest conferences in the nation from top to bottom in 2001. Connecticut is definitely the team to beat. They are playing very well and definitely clicking as a team. If the Huskies continue to play solid team defense and take reasonable advantage of the opportunities they have to score they should win the tourney. St. John’s is always tough at tourney time and definitely have the talent to win it. Whether they are strong enough to get by Connecticut is questionable. Rutgers is as talented from top to bottom as any team in the conference and they have a very potent attack. They are coming into the tourney off a 1-0 loss to Connecticut and a 3-2 big upset loss to Virginia Tech. The Scarlet Knights may
