Marcus Storey, forward, North Carolina - Tallied the game winner for the Tar Heels against William and Mary. Storey is leading the Tar Heel attack and making a significant contribution toward filling the void that existed in the Tar Heel attack due to the fact that Carolina lost the players who contributed 78 percent of its goals and 56 percent of its assists from the 2000 team. As a team Carolina is second in the ACC in scoring offense averaging 2.5 goals per game.
Chris Corcoran, midfielder, St. John’s - Corcoran decisively controlled a loose ball just outside the box and lofted it into the goal in the 104th minute of play to give the Red Storm a 2-1 win over Cal State Fullerton.
Chad Severs, forward, Penn State - Severs is among a group of freshmen who are making an impact at Penn State this year. A talented finisher who has contributed 3 goals and 5 assists year to date.
Brett Wiesner, forward, Washington - A definite impact player who is looking good up top for the Huskies. His goal several weeks back was the game winner in the Washington win over Connecticut. Wiesner has found the back of the net three times for the Huskies. Look for more to follow.
C.J. Klaus, midfielder, Washington - Klaus has lived up to preseason expectations. He has strengthened the Huskie midfield and has very effectively made the transition form high school to collegiate soccer.
Mira Mupier, forward, Charlotte - Mupier tallied his second game winner of the year when he scored with 18 minutes remaining in the contest to give Coach John Tart’s Forty Niners a 2-1 win over Elon.
Knox Cameron, midfielder, Michigan - Cameron is having a solid freshman season in the midfield for the Maize and Blue. He has contributed two goals and two assists as Michigan is off to a good start for a men’s soccer team that is only in its second year as a varsity sport in the Big Ten Conference.
Dan Kennedy, goalkeeper, California Santa Barbara - Someone forgot to tell Kennedy that freshmen keepers were supposed to be intimidated by the change from high school to college soccer. Playing with the confidence and intensity of a veteran, Kennedy has come up big time and time again to help keep the Gauchos in the game.
Wes Kirk, Midfielder, Maryland - Kirk tallied a goal in the Terps win over Princeton. It was his second of the year. Kirk, a talented midfielder, has seen playing times in all of Maryland’s matches so far.
Chris Karcz, Midfielder, Rutgers - Karcz has played well for Rutgers and was named Big East Rookie of the week when he contributed an assist in the Scarlet Knights tie with conference foe St. John’s. This past weekend Karcz added an assist in Rutger’s win over C.S. Fullerton. He has effectively made the transition to the college game.
Clint Baumstark, Goalkeeper, UAB - Baumstarark has posted 6 shutouts. The Blazers have given up just .33 goals per match year to date. His most recent shutouts include UAB’s 3-0 win over conference foe South Florida and 2-0 win over Alabama A and M. Baumstark has played very well between the pipes for Coach Mike Getman’s UAB squad
Kyle Veris, Midfielder, Akron - Veris has played well for Akron in a starting capacity. He scored the game winning goal to give the Zips a 3-2 win over conference foe Northern Illinois. Akron is 4-3-1 overall but they have a perfect 3-0-0 record in Mid-American Conference action.
Ryan McMahen, forward, Michigan State - McMahen is a strong finisher who has added to the Michigan State attack up top. He leads the Spartan attack so far this year with four goals and three assists.
Patrick Grange, midfielder, Illinois-Chicago - Grange has tallied seven goals and added three assists thus far in the 2001 season. His most recent goal was in the Flames 1-1 tie with UW-Green Bay. Grange’s goal came with less than six minutes left in regulation to enable Illinois-Chicago to avoid the unset loss.
Derek McElligott, forward, UMBC - McElligott is a solid finisher who has made an immediate contribution to the Retriever attack. He has scored a total of nine goals in UMBC’s first ten matches.
Jason Osborne, midfielder, Stetson - Osborne tallied two goals to lead the Hatters past Atlantic Sun Conference foe Belmont 4-0. Stetson is now 6-5-0 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play.
Danny O’Rourke, defender, Indiana - O’Rourke has been an impact player as a starter for the Hoosiers. He has consistently played well and has more than held his own on the field. His play has enabled others to become more actively involved in the Indiana attack. The bottom line is that the Hoosiers are a much better team when O’Rourke is on the field.
Mike Ambersley, midfielder, Indiana - Ambersley tallied three goals to lead the Indiana attack in a 7-0 win over Michigan. He is a very talented player who will continue to add to the Hoosier attack as the season progresses.
Gustavo Mora, forward, Rutgers - Mora knocked in the game winner in Rutger’s win over C.S. Fullerton. He has now tallied three goals year to date and is adding value to Coach Bob Reasso’s Rutgers squad that is now 6-1-2 overall.
Matt Janusz, forward, Stanford - Janusz has tallied four goals and contributed three assists as one of several freshmen who are making an impact and seeing plenty of playing time this year for the Cardinal. Most recently he scored Stanford’s first goal in their 4-1 win over Saint Mary’s.
Josh Garbee, midfielder, Florida Atlantic University - Garbee out of Bloomingdale High School in Florida tallied an assist in FAU’s 2-1 upset win over Georgia State in a key Atlantic Sun Conference match.
Kevin Goldthwaite, midfielder, Notre Dame - Goldthwaite has contributed a goal and two assists earning valuable playing time as a freshman this year for the Fighting Irish.
